Try new things. Make new friends. Join in, and start your amazing Scouting adventure!

We meet on Tuesdays, from 18:00 to 19:15

Getting started, trying new activities, learning new things

Beavers gives 6 to 8 year-olds their first opportunity to get stuck in, learn, explore, try and grow in small but mighty ways

Each week, our Colony meets up and our Beavers hop, skip and jump their way through all sorts of fun and amazing games and activities, learning all sorts of things (without even realising), achieving anything they can set their minds to, and having a whole load of fun.

As a Beaver, your young person will try all sorts of new things that they may never have had the opportunity to at home or school, go on all sorts of new adventures, make new friends, become curious about their world, and help to make a difference, both locally and in the wider world.

We work towards the Chief Scout's Bronze award

Beavers complete their challenge awards to earn the top award for the section

Being a Scout is all about giving new things a go, and growing as a person, and from your very first day as a Scout, you'll be earning badges and awards, starting with your World Membership Badge, and going from there. You can work towards as many as you like, at your own pace, ant by the time you've left the Beaver colony and joined the Cub pack, you'll have badges all over your sweater!

Our main goal is to give each Beaver Scout the opportunity to earn the coveted Chief Scout's Bronze Award - the top award for members of the Beaver Colony - by helping them earn all six of their challenge awards and four activity badges.

Earning challenge awards and activity badges

Challenge awards are designed to do exactly that - challenge you. They make you step outside of your comfort zone, try things you wouldn't usually be interested in, or take the lead on something that you think is a bit scary. Earning a challenge award is a huge achievement, and you'll need to complete a number of ambitious tasks - not just within your colony, but in the wider community.

We give our Beavers loads of support along the way, by creating and taking part in a wide range of events and activities that will help them earn activity badges as part of completing their challenges and, as they reach the end of their journey with Beavers, we'll give them a personal challenge to work on in the run up to completing their time in the colony.

Earning activity badges away from Beavers

We also recognise the progress and efforts our Beavers put in outside of their meetings, events and activities that we run, and many of the badges available to Beavers give our young members a platform to show off their progress in the things they do every day, encouraging them to try new things and form new interests.

You can look at all the activity badges available for Beavers to work towards on the Scouts website.

How old are Beaver Scouts?

We welcome all young people between 5¾ and 8 years of age

Beavers are usually young people aged between 6 and 8 though, when it comes to age, we have some flexibility to extend that age range within the guidelines issued by Scouts. We can welcome young people from the age of 5¾ as long as they're ready to join us, and we’ll usually discuss this with you when you’re joining.

Similarly, when it comes to deciding on when to move up to Cubs, we offer flexibility in choosing the right time to move on. For example, it will often make sense for friendship groups in Beavers to move up to Cubs together, so we can make allowances up to the age of 8½ for those that need it.

If your young person is below the age of 5¾ then don’t worry – you can, and should, still add them to our New Member Waiting List, and we’ll be in touch when we’re ready to offer them a place.

Join Beavers at 9th Warwick Emscote Scout Group

We welcome all young people between 5¾ and 8 years of age

Joining Beavers with us is a great way to get your young person started on their Scouting journey. Our group has a fantastic track record of keeping young people interested - some of our Scouts started their journey with us as Beavers and have already moved on to Explorer Scout Units across the district.

Beavers is open to all, and we are usually able to tweak things to make sure that everyone is able to join in the fun. If you've got any questions about how we can make Beavers accessible to your young person, get in touch with us and we'll have a chat. Being upfront from the start gives us the advantage of being able to work together in partnership to ensure that your young person has the best possible experience in Scouts.

What you’ll need in order to join

All you need to do is register your details on our new members waiting list. As soon as your young person reaches the age to join Beavers, and we have a space in the colony, we'll get in touch and invite you and your young person to their first session.

You won't need a uniform to join Beavers, but once you've joined and settled in, you'll be earning all sorts of brilliant badges, so you'll need somewhere to put them. When your young person is nearly ready to make their Promise, we’ll let you know how to get your uniform.

Invest in your young person’s future with us

By joining Scouts, your young person becomes part of a worldwide movement, dedicated to helping them develop skills they can use in the real world, while having fun, adventure and making new friends. We’re so confident that your young person will love Beavers that their first session is free of charge. After this, a membership fee will become due.
