The newest branch of the Scouts family tree, just for young people aged 4 to 6.

Squirrels meet on Tuesdays, from 16:30 to 17:30

Ready, set, go! Be part of the youngest section of Scouts.

Squirrels gives 4 to 6 year-olds their first opportunity to grow and learn through fun games and activities.

Our Drey opened its doors in September 2022 to give Squirrels the opportunity to have lots of fun while achieving all sorts of amazing things. They take part in amazing games and activities, learning all sorts of things (without even realising), achieving anything they can set their minds to.

As a Squirrel, your young person will try all sorts of new things, earn some amazing badges and awards, make new friends, become curious about their world, and help get themselves ready for the amazing adventures they'll have at School and in Beavers.

Meet our amazing Squirrels Leaders

None of this would be possible without our amazing Squirrel Scout Leaders, here to plan and deliver an inspiring programme!

We work towards the Chief Scout's Acorn award

Squirrels complete their challenge awards to earn the top award for the section

Like every other section, being a Squirrel Scout is all about giving new things a go, and growing as a person, and from your very first day as a Squirrel, you'll be earning badges and awards, starting with your World Membership Badge, and going from there. You can work towards as many as you like, at your own pace, ant by the time you've left the drey and joined our Beaver colony, you'll have badges all over your sweater!

Our main goal is to give each Squirrel Scout the opportunity to earn the coveted Chief Scout's Acorn Award - the top award for members of the Squirrel Drey - by helping them earn all four of their challenge awards, and having an a lot of fun while they do so!

Earning challenge awards and activity badges

Challenge awards are designed to do exactly that - challenge you. They're about stepping outside our comfort zone, trying something we wouldn't ordinarily be interested in, and taking the lead in something that might scare you. All along the way, Squirrels learn new skills, unlock hidden talents and stand tall!

Earning activity badges away from Beavers

We also recognise the progress and efforts our Squirrels put in outside of their meetings, events and activities that we run, and many of the badges available to Squirrels give our young members a platform to show off their progress in the things they do every day, encouraging them to try new things and form new interests.

You can look at all the activity badges available for Squirrels to work towards on the Scouts website.

How old are Squirrel Scouts?

We welcome all young people between 4 and 6 years of age

Squirrels are young people aged between 4 and 6.

When it comes to deciding on when to move up to Beavers, we can offer some flexibility in choosing the right time to move on, and can move on as soon as they reach 5¾, but all Squirrels will leave the drey when they turn 6 years old.

If your young person is under 4 then don’t worry – you can, and should, still add them to our New Member Waiting List, and we’ll be in touch when we’re ready to offer them a place.

Join Squirrels at 9th Warwick Emscote Scout Group

We welcome all young people between 4 and 6 years of age

Joining Squirrels with us is a great way to get your young person started on their Scouting journey. Our group has a fantastic track record of keeping young people interested - some of our Scouts started their journey with us as Beavers and have already moved on to Explorer Scout Units across the district.

Squirrels is open to all, and we are usually able to tweak things to make sure that everyone is able to join in the fun. If you've got any questions about how we can make Squirrels accessible to your young person, get in touch with us and we'll have a chat. Being upfront from the start gives us the advantage of being able to work together in partnership to ensure that your young person has the best possible experience in Scouts.

What you’ll need in order to join

All you need to do is register your details on our new members waiting list. As soon as your young person reaches the age to join Squirrels, and we have a space in the drey, we'll get in touch and invite you and your young person to their first session.

Your Squirrels uniform sweatshirt is included as part of your joining fee, and as you start earning the brilliant badges available, you'll have somewhere to put them!

Invest in your young person’s future with us

By joining Scouts, your young person becomes part of a worldwide movement, dedicated to helping them develop skills they can use in the real world, while having fun, adventure and making new friends. We’re so confident that your young person will love Squirrels that their first session is free of charge. After this, a joining fee and membership fee will become due – we'll share details of these with you before you join.
